Cancer Fund for Children – The Daisy Ball

Trish and I were delighted to attend the Daisy Ball last week — a truly magical and moving evening in support of children and young people affected by cancer.

Every month, approximately 40 children and young people aged 0–24 across Ireland receive a cancer diagnosis. Each year, this remarkable charity supports almost 2,000 children and their families across all 32 counties, providing care, hope and strength at what is often the most difficult time of their lives.

We had the privilege of meeting Clement and Ger Gavin, and their son Michael — an inspiring young man whose courage and resilience left a lasting impression on everyone present. Hearing their family’s journey brought into sharp focus the profound difference that Cancer Fund for Children makes when families need support most.

The evening was also a powerful reminder of the generosity and compassion within our communities, with an incredible €385,000 raised on the night. At the same time, it underlined how much more still needs to be done. Demand for these vital services continues to grow, and the charity cannot meet that need alone.

Events like the Daisy Ball play a crucial role in ensuring that children and families facing cancer are not left to navigate that journey on their own.
