Addressing East Wicklow Business Network | The Grid Innovation Hub, Greystones
I was delighted to join Simon Harris TD, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Councillor Louise Fenelon Gaskin in addressing more than 100 entrepreneurs at a recent East Wicklow Business Network breakfast briefing, held at The GRID Innovation Hub in Greystones — a fantastic place to live, work and build a business.
For decades, I — along with many others — have championed the vital role Irish SMEs play, not only in driving our national economy but also in sustaining and strengthening our local communities. Today, as Ireland faces renewed uncertainty from tariffs, shifting global trade patterns and pressures on foreign direct investment, it is clearer than ever that our indigenous businesses will be central to our future success.
Time and again, Ireland has demonstrated that we possess the talent, creativity and ambition to succeed — both at home and on the global stage. Now is the moment to actively support:
A new wave of modern start-ups
Indigenous businesses ready to scale
Companies exploring and entering new international markets
Over the past year, through trade visits and conferences across the UAE and wider Middle East, Singapore, Japan, Canada and the United States, I have seen first-hand the scale of opportunity awaiting Irish companies abroad. I have also witnessed the strong and practical support being provided by Enterprise Ireland and other State agencies in helping businesses access and succeed in these markets.
The world of opportunity is open to us — if we are bold enough to seize it.
Let us continue to back our entrepreneurs and SMEs — the backbone of our economy — as they innovate, grow and proudly fly the Irish flag around the world.
