Smarthomes
Smarthomes is Ireland's largest in-home technology company, providing home owners with innovative communication and entertainment connectivity.
The company was conceived after Seán Gallagher and a friend Derek Roddy realised their new homes had no provision for the technology they needed to set up a home office or sound system. Inspired by the belief that technology should be designed, planned and integrated into homes at building stage, Smarthomes was born in 2002.
Smarthomes services now include TV (cable, digital and satellite), broadband, telephone, home office, home cinema surround sound, central music and iPod-ready homes, CCTV, programmable lighting and the option to control home heating remotely via a text message or the internet from anywhere in the world.
Smarthomes technology has now been installed in over 8,000 homes throughout the country, including Ireland's largest housing development, Adamstown which will consist of more than 10,000 homes when complete.
The Smarthomes concept has firmly established itself as an important feature in all new homes, and its market leadership position has been firmly established with a remarkable list of awards for innovation and excellence including:
- 2004 Intertrade Ireland's Seedcorn Business Competition for the best business plan from emerging companies on the island of Ireland.
- 2005 the Deloitte "Rising Star Award" under its "Fast 50" Programme.
- 2005 the Award for Innovation at the Small Firms Association's inaugural Business Awards.
- 2005 and 2006 Plan Expo Award for Best Product in the Construction Sector.
In February 2009 Smarthomes signed a distribution Agreement with an Irish subsidiary of a large U.S. Technology company who will become the sole distributor for Smarthomes in Ireland. This move is part of the Company's ambitious plan to make its products more widely available and will be supported by a series of training programmes throughout the Country for electrical contractors.
